Rangel, Sit Down & Shut Up
November 26, 2006 | By Sniper One |
Someone needs to tell Chuck Rangel to put a sock in it.
(Fox News Sunday)I want to make it abundantly clear: if there’s anyone who believes that these youngsters want to fight, as the Pentagon and some generals have said, you can just forget about it. No young, bright individual wants to fight just because of a bonus and just because of educational benefits. And most all of them come from communities of very, very high unemployment. If a young fella has an option of having a decent career or joining the army to fight in Iraq, you can bet your life that he would not be in Iraq.
This is just another example of the liberal view that America is a deeply flawed country. Many people can’t understand why anyone would want to stand up and fight for America, because of the deep seated shame they feel for being American.
Frankly, I’m proud to be an American. From my experience, it is not that poor, under- privileged, people from high unemployment areas that sign up for Military service.
Not unless you count a twenty-nine year old, married, white, female, with three children, and a husband making forty five thousand a year as a poor under-educated person. I doubt any one would say that where I live is an area of high unemployment, or was back in 2003 when my wife signed her name on the paperwork and had “Property of Uncle Sam” stamped on her ass.
My wife joined the Army because she wanted to. She joined specifically to go to Iraq, she wanted to go and help people, and to spread democracy. She signed to pay back the country of her birth for the freedoms she has enjoyed. She signed up because she felt it was the right thing to do.
The Army ended up having other plans for her, and after a nearly year long battle in Physical Training and Recovery after a set of injuries in Basic Combat Training, she was honorably discharged. Her only regret was not being able to finish was she started.
For her sacrifice and her example to myself and our children, I can honestly say that she is a personal hero of mine.
Her example allowed me to reach beyond my own fears and join the military in Afghanistan and Iraq, serving as a civilian contractor.
Chuck Rangel, you have missed the mark. You are an embarrassment to the poor souls who you claim to represent. Have someone else do the speaking for you, as you have proven that you should not be allowed to speak on your own.
