Captain Jamil Hussein

January 9, 2007 | By Sniper One |

I haven’t said much, if anything about the continuing saga of mystery reporter “Captain Jamil Hussein”. Mostly because I haven’t felt that there is anything I could add.

The on again, off again appearance of “Captain Hussein”, as well as the continued ducking done by the AP has been enough to thrown anything supposedly reported by him into question.

This is not just one story. It is at least 61. And all of these. And this big one. It is not about conservative bloggers ignoring the bona fide, grim realities on the ground. It is about the credibility, veracity, trustworthiness, and accountability of the world’s “essential global news network”–more important than ever in a time of war.

Even if it is proved that Captain Hussein exists, it does not by itself prove his stories to be accurate. The fact that Michelle Malkin has felt the need to go to Iraq to try and verify the facts of these stories should shame the AP.

Since the AP has done nothing to prove the facts they supposedly reported in these stories, I fully expect Michelle to return from Iraq with concrete evidence that the AP has been lying to the American people, and the world.

This update from Bill’s Bites:

But guess what Bill just confirmed? Brig. Abdul-Karim Khalaf never acknowledged that there was a Capt. Jamil Hussein assigned to the Khadra station, he confirmed to the AP that there was a Capt. Jamil Ghdaab Gulaim assigned there. Apparently he is the source for the AP even though he still, to this day (according to Bill Costlow), denies being the source.

The Iraqi government admits he exists, in the location the AP said he was in, and currently has him under arrest for talking to the press when he is not authorized. Brit Hume already admitted he was wrong and Jason Eason chided everyone who condemned the AP conveniently forgetting that he did as well.

Since it is questionable as to the actual identity of Captain Jamil Hussein, it is absurd to say that he has been arrested.

As I said, even if he is identified, there are far more questions to the stories he has been “reporting” than merely his existence. The AP must make a full accounting of the facts in order to avoid the egg that is on their face.

Hey…he existed! Malkin and the likes were wrong as usual. This should be quite a familiar feeling by now. People trust the AP for protecting sources where people don’t trust bloviating blogs who accuse before gathering facts even is the facts they gather are fabricated. I’ve seen more lies at Malkin’s website than a million years of mainstream media news. Guess which one the World is smart enough to trust? Common sense.

Apparently, you can’t read. Otherwise you would of noticed that his existence isn’t the entire issue.

There is no proof that the mosques in questions were burned, nor is there any proof that the people they claim were burned alive actually were indeed torched.

Where is the proof? Where are the facts?

What do you want - dna from the dead bodies? If they provided pictures you’d say they doctored them. What kind of proof would satisy you? You don’t strike me as being from Missouri.

You know what I’d say… wow that’s impressive. Nice of you to put words in my mouth. Do you always ask questions you think are rhetorical?

I would like photos of the burned bodies, I would like photos of the mosques in question. I would like those photos to be confirmed by a MNF-I/Centcom source.

If the photos of the body cannot be provided, I would accept testimony from (two or more) Iraqis in the neighborhood, which has been independently verified by either the Iraqi government or Centcom.

If the story is true, that shouldn’t be too much to ask.

I suppose it wouldn’t be except I doubt it’s in the Green Zone. Why is the cop not good enough? Just asking…..seriously. I haven’t seen much of anything coming out of Iraq by any news organization verified the way you want it to be.

Under normal circumstances I would take the cops word. However, there have been so many questions raised about this particular story, that a better accounting of the facts need to be made.

Most news stories don’t require this kind of verification, because they are as full of holes.
