Ain’t this a kick to the head…

(Jerusalem Post) Islamic countries pushed through a resolution at the UN Human Rights Council on Friday urging a global prohibition on the public defamation of religion, a response largely to the furor last year over caricatures published in a Danish newspaper of the Muslim Prophet Muhammad.

The statement proposed by the Organization of Islamic Conference addressed what it called a “campaign” against Muslim minorities and the Islamic religion around the world since the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States.

The resolution, which was opposed by European and a number of other non-Muslim countries, “expresses deep concern at attempts to identify Islam with terrorism, violence and human rights violations.”

It makes no mention of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism or any other religion besides Islam, but urges countries “to take resolute action to prohibit the dissemination of racist and xenophobic ideas and material aimed at any religion or its followers that constitute incitement and religious hatred, hostility, or violence.”

Human Rights Watch said the resolution could endanger the basic rights of individuals.

The document “focuses on protection of religions themselves, particularly Islam, rather than the rights of individuals, including members of religious minorities,” the New York-based rights group said in a statement.

Human Rights Watch is usually off the deep-end of the pool… but as much as I hate it… I have to dis agree with them on this issue. This isn’t designed to protect Religions from unjustified attacks. This is designed to keep people from questioning Islam, even if the question is justified.

Gimme a break. We have a nekkid anatomically correct Chocolate Jesus during holy week, more than likely complete with a marshmallow creme filled cock, and raspberry syrup filled veins; and nobody dies. However if someone makes a cartoon of Mohammad, we have riots and death all over the world. Can you say “double standard”.

What a crock of shit.

You don’t see Mormon’s throwing a fit over the “special underwear” commentary brought on by Mitt Romney’s presidential aspirations. You don’t see Jehovah’s Witnesses suing people for “Defamation protection”. You don’t see the Jews suing Iran for their remarks… just Islam. It would seem that the Muslims can dish it out, but can’t take it.

I think you mean you hate to agree with Human Rights Watch. In which case, the Communist/Feminist pamphlets are in the mail.
