"Nappy-Headed Hos"

April 9, 2007 | By Sniper One |

Am I the only person who thinks that if Don Imus was a black man, that this wouldn’t of even caused as much as a butterfly wingflap?

Now having said that… I don’t listen to Imus. I listened to him once or twice, decided he wasn’t worth listening to, and moved on. I don’t give two shits if he is fired or not.

However, I’ve heard enough rap, and street talk from young wanna-be gangsta types that I can’t find enough moral outrage about “nappy-headed hos” to cover the head of a pin.

If Don King had said “nappy-headed hos”, nobody would of said boo. If Sean Combs had said “nappy-headed hos”, nobody would of cared. If 50cent had said “nappy-headed hos”, it would of gone quadruple platinum, and Rev. Sharpton would be cruising the hood blasting it on his car speakers.

Until the “offended” community cleans up it’s own act, it has no “street cred” to be lecturing us “crackers” on how to behave.

So Imus, I may not like you, but us crackers gotta hang tough when the man is keeping us down.

Spoken like someone who’s never been called a nappy-headed (fill in the epithet of your choice)…by a black man.

I have to agree with Sniper on this one. I find it more than a little hypocritical that the gangsta rappers spread terminology like “bitches” and “hos” (as well as the “N” word) into the pop culture of music — you know, that medium touted by liberals and pop culture icons as a “unifying, universal form of expression” — and then cry foul when someone else uses it on the air. Especially when that someone isn’t the “right” color/race.

Words have meanings. They ought to be defined and understood equally for everyone. If I called Jesse Jackson a “nigga”, it ought to be as morally repugnant as if 50cent called him the same thing! Otherwise, we end up with a double-standard among the races and THAT ties back (loosely) to slavery, doesn’t it?

Back in the 1860’s, whites felt that blacks weren’t capable of living equally in the white man’s world (blacks used to be counted as 3/5ths of a person in the census, correct?) Now, I hear blacks saying that whites can’t use gangsta rap language because they haven’t lived in a world of slavery and descrimination, therefore they aren’t entitled to use these racially charged words. Sound familiar, only reversed? Whites aren’t worthy… Double standards are never a good thing, are they?

      MSNBC Fired Imus…

Here’s the AP story:MSNBC said Wednesday it will drop its simulcast of the Imus in the Morning radio program, responding to growing outrage over the radio host’s racial slur against the Rutgers women’s basketball team. This decision comes as a…

I understand what you are talking about because not long ago my grandson who loves rap and was 12 years old at the time could not comprehend why the N word was an unacceptable word to use when he hears it in so many of the rap songs he loves. I know some of you will ask why do his parents allow him to listen to rap but that is another topic. I agree that the standards of acceptable public speach need to be applied to everyon equally.
